Ridgefield Dentures crafts great smiles for Valentine’s Day
January 4, 2016
Missing some or all of your teeth? Ridgefield dentists, Dr. Dana Jones and Dr. Josephine Franseze, make beautiful Valentine smiles with 06877 dentures.
A completely functioning and attractive smile–who wouldn’t want one? Yet, for people missing some of all of their teeth, the denture process can be intimidating. Fortunately, Drs. Jones and Franzese, Ridgefield dentists make the 06877 denture process easy, comfortable and customized to individual patient need and preference.
Living without a proper smile
While all dentists and patients wish to avoid tooth loss, it does happen. Accident, decay, gum disease–they threaten smile integrity. The large gaps left by missing teeth look unattractive, but they also cause real oral health issues–tooth drift and loss of bite height. Facial appearance and the ability to eat and speak normally change pretty dramatically.
Dentures present a tried and true solution to missing teeth. Made from quality materials, dentures from Ridgefield Perfect Smile Center restore function and appearance so people can get on with their daily lives in health and confidence.
Types of dentures
Dentures come in 2 basic types: partial and full. Partial dentures are one or more prosthetic teeth mounted on a metal frame. Metal clasps attached to neighboring teeth hold the prosthetic in place. Removable and attractive, “partials” are durable and economical tooth replacement solutions.
Full dentures may be conventional or immediate. Conventional dentures replace a full arch of teeth. Dr. Jones or Franzese takes an oral impression before extraction so the dental lab can correctly customize the appliance. After tooth extraction, tissues heal, and the dentist places the Ridgefield denture after removing the sutures. Sometimes, 2 remaining teeth serve as anchors for a full conventional denture.
Immediate dentures replace teeth right after extraction. They act as a band-aid of sorts, compressing gums and bone and expediting healing. The dentist replaces, or relines, immediate Ridgefield dentures after several months of healing because the gums and bone structure shrink in size and change the fit of the prosthetic.
Implant-supported dentures
While denture technology has greatly improved, patients often complain about appliance instability or inability to eat their favorite foods. Implant-supported dentures change that scenario.
Multiple metal implants, surgically placed right into the jaw bone, anchor fixed or even removable dentures in qualified candidates. This stable system has 2 advantages:
- the full denture does not move and allows the individual to eat whatever healthy foods he enjoys
- the implants strengthen the jaw by transferring chewing and biting forces to the bone
The jaw bone joins to dental implants through a natural process called osseointegration. Because of osseointegration, implant patients and implant-supported denture patients retain jaw bone size and density and healthy gum tissue, too.
